2022-2023 Academic Year
AUN’s goals for the 2022-23 academic year included the projects listed below. For additional information or feedback, we encourage you to contact Marquetta Scott or Charnessa Warren.
- Physical Accessibility: Accessible Maps. Create a tactile version of the University’s campus map to provide an accessible version for individuals with print-related disabilities. To request a braille version of the campus map, please contact Student Disability Services at disabilities@uchicago.edu.
- Training & Awareness: Campus Community Accessibility Training. In honor of International Day of Persons with Disabilities Day, AUN will partner with the Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities to deliver a virtual disability awareness and inclusion training for the campus community on November 30, 2022.
- Training & Awareness: Disability Inclusion toolkit. This toolkit is intended for all campus stakeholders: students, staff, faculty, and other academic appointees. Its purpose is to guide each unit through an analysis of the current state of disability inclusion; to identify areas of opportunity; to provide examples and resources for action; and to provide an assessment checklist to support the development of a sustainable model of disability inclusive excellence in institutional programs, courses, events, and services.
- Policies & Practices: Disability Justice Workshops. In partnership with the Center for Identity and Inclusion, Professor Jamelia Morgan will lead the Intersections of Disability Justice and Racial Justice Workshop. Professor Jamelia Morgan is an award-winning and acclaimed scholar and teacher focusing on issues at the intersections of race, gender, disability, and criminal law and punishment. Her scholarship and teaching examine the development of disability as a legal category in American law, disability and policing, overcriminalization and the regulation of physical and social disorder, and the constitutional dimensions of the criminalization of status. This event will happen in-person and virtually on Monday, March 27, 2023.
- AUN Marketing and Communication. Voting on a theme and communicating that theme to the campus community. On February 15, 2023, AUN’s theme for the 2023-2024 academic year was: Access is for Everyone. Swag and Zoom backgrounds were developed to market this update for the group.
